Who We Are

Background

Ponlok Khmer also known as People and Knowledge of Highlanders (PKH) is a local NGO founded in 15 February 2005 and it was officially registered with Ministry of Interior of Cambodia received legal registration in 24 June, 2008 as a charity, development and non-profit organization. PKH focuses on peace and resource rights education playing as a platform for communities and local authority to meet and discuss the challenges to find proper solution for development improving positive impact of the poor and women in the communities, integrated community development through strengthening community based organizations by providing technical advice of community legalization and forest based sustainable livelihood development for forest dependent and Indigenous Community, and capacity building and consultation service by learning and documentation from what we have done successfully in a good model for sustainable development.

Our Mission

PKH supports organizing, exchange, and networking by active community members, through farmers, indigenous peoples, and forest dependent communities, including women, men, elders, people with disabilities, and youths become empowered, gain control over their land and resources, and develop their own improved institutionalized and economies through culturally appropriate practices.

Our Core Values

  1. Trust: We trusted in the quality of team work and on the job learning
  2. Respect: We strongly respect the policies and leadership of the organization and the culture, knowledge, and existing structures of target communities, especially Indigenous Peoples.
  3. Equity: We support the exercise of rights in accessing justice over economic development
  4. Gender and social inclusion: We ensure the inclusion of women, men, children, youth, elders, and people with disabilities in participatory community development and promote women’s inclusion through prioritizing their access to decision-making structures.
  5. Child rights: We promote provision (healthcare, education and services, recreation, a balanced diet, a warm bed to sleep in, schooling), protection (from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and discrimination), and participation (in community development and decision-making).
  6. Collective action: We believe in promoting the collective activities of youth, elders, men, women, people with disabilities, farmers and forest dependent people that can bring about change.
